If the president of the United States of America is defending a child molester, America is worse off than even I could have ever imagined.
Not to mention the president’s current sexual assault allegations, the administration and its reaches of power have confirmed that sexual harassment, assault, and now pedophilia, is okay. I’m talking about Trump’s defense of Roy Moore, a Republican candidate in the Alabama senate race.
In quick remarks yesterday, a reporter asked Trump what he would say to women today about Moore’s actions. His only response to that was ‘he said he didn’t do it’. The danger contained within this phrase is incredibly insidious; just because Moore denies it in a move to preserve himself, the president is taking that at face value, immediately discrediting the women who have spoken against Moore.
This isn’t surprising, given the president’s own track record with accusations from women, but that doesn’t make it any less scary.
Even in the wake of all of the constructive
conversations about sexual harassment and microaggressions in the workplace
surrounding the multiple revelations of sexual assault in Hollywood that are
currently going on, this endorsement shows the reality of America’s situation. Although we’re beginning to address it, those at the top still condone it.
In the same statement, Trump said another disturbing thing regarding the Alabama Senator’s race: that America doesn’t need ‘another liberal in the Senate,' which is why he’s supporting Roy Moore.
The conservative sensibilities within this statement don’t concern me, as that is a matter of preference, but the fact that this serves as a reasoning as to why he is defending a pedophile is deeply disturbing: he would rather win than allow constructive leadership into the legislature.
The president would rather a pedophile than someone who
prosecuted members of the KKK into the White House. This is terrifying in and
of itself. I ask the people of Alabama: be as vocal about this as possible. We
cannot allow another man who has a sexual criminal history into office again.
