It's Time We Remember We Are All Human Beings

People should be coming together, not growing further and further apart.

I’m not really sure how I should start this off, considering that in today’s society a simple word can offend someone. And that’s not what I’m here to do, I’m just trying to understand how it came to this. How individuals get upset or offended based on adjectives that someone decided, “hey this is going to be a word now” and then I can also see how someone would have those feelings depending on the context of those adjectives.

The world is peculiar in that way. We all have our views or opinions, whatever they may be, and if someone doesn’t share in those same feelings, then they’re automatically against you. Yes, the world seems to be melodramatic, don’t you think?

We need to remember that society is always changing. It changes with every generation, and it also changes based on major events that happen; it’s just always evolving. And with this ever evolving cycle, people should be coming together, not grow further and further apart.

But instead, people blame each other for their misfortunes and bad experiences that they may face in their lifetime. But what society fails to blame is themselves and their one sided opinions that shape everything in their lives.

The fact of the matter is that we ‘label’ EVERYTHING. We’re labeled by our sizes, our genders, our skin colors, our social class, our political parties, even our religion…and for what? Why do we continue to draw wedges between human beings? And with all the chaos surrounding these labels, I ask myself, why do we label these things?

To me it’s just not necessary, these labels are used to classify us, to define us. Why can’t we just call ourselves human beings, who happen to be different and have unique traits? Why put such a huge emphasis on those things that cause turmoil amongst us…

You’re probably thinking, this girl is crazy, we need labels in society…and yes I agree some labels are important for various reasons, but not when they’re dividing everyone from one another.

The point I’m trying to make is very straight forward. We as human beings, regardless of our labels, are and will always be human beings. That’s something that connects us all, it’s something that we share and will always share.

We need to overcome these labels…these prejudices that society has told us we should have. We’re so caught up in our own one sided minds that we are forgetting to form an opinion of someone based on their character, them as being a good or bad human being. Not by judging someone based on a label that someone decided defined a group of people.

It’s time for everyone to take a step back, open your eyes and see what’s going on around you. Realize that life is too short to have hate towards people who are labeled something that you don’t like. There’s that phrase that says ‘Don’t judge a book by its’ cover’, the same thing applies to people. Being a truly good person starts with you. You have the power to make society better, it’s time we as human beings start doing that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
