Arcadia's Campus As Characters From "The Office"

With a campus as unique as Arcadia's, it's sometimes hard to find just the right words to describe its most distinctive physical attributes. There's just so much personality to each individual building and residence hall that I could only think of one way to fully encompass each of the most prominent places on campus; with characters from "The Office!"

Academic Buildings

Brubaker Hall - Jim Halpert

Brubaker, traditionally the building for many of the business classes at Arcadia, has bright hallways and professors keep their offices open to students. Perhaps most notably, Brubaker is directly connected to Easton which is important because of Pam.

Easton Hall - Pam Beesly

Ah, yes. The unstoppable duo for office pranks and jokes. Maybe this would explain why the water feature behind Easton mysteriously fills up with bubbles every Halloween.

Taylor Hall - Angela Martin

Home to many of the writing classes at Arcadia, Taylor Hall's classrooms are structured less lecture style and more traditional-school room style. Angela is quite traditional and conservative, so I think she would appreciate this orthodox fashion.

Boyer Hall of Science - Dwight Schrute

As all of the Biology, Psychology, and Chemistry majors know, Boyer is a darker building but it is filled with lab equipment that is perfect for top secret experiments. I'm sure Dwight would have a field day (and it's only a short walk from Taylor Hall).

Spruance Fine Art Center - Kelly Kapoor

Kelly certainly has a flair for the dramatic, and since Spruance houses a lovely theater for all of the drama and musical productions every semester.

Murphy Hall - Ryan Howard

Located conveniently adjacent to Spruance, Murphy is the art and communications building that is infamous for kiln fires, and I'm sure we all remember who started the fire.

Landman Library - Karen Filipelli

Although she's not on the show too much, when she does make an appearance, Karen seems to be one of the only characters that has any idea what's going on. She's knowledgable and sometimes overlooked, just like the library, but still an asset to her environment.

Activity Centers

The Commons - Darryl Philbin

Easily the character with the most chill, Darryl wholeheartedly encompasses the relaxed atmosphere of the Commons. There's a game room, comfy couches, and The Chat provides some good snacks!

The Kuch Athletic and Recreation Center - Andy Bernard

No one is more packed with energy than Andy, and given the two gyms stuffed with workout equipment and an indoor track, I think Andy would fit in just right (as long as he's careful to tape down his nipples to prevent chafing, that is).

The Dining Complex - Kevin Malone

Kevin loves food and I'm sure he'd love to cook up a pot of his famous chili. Need I say more?

Blankley Alumni House - Jan Levinson

A tiny but sophisticated building located at one of the entrances to Arcadia. It gets a little crazy at times with the different club meetings that happen there, but just like Jan, no matter how crazy things get, things always manage to settle back in order.

The Sports Dome - David Wallace

You never really see it, but you always know that it's there... just like corporate.

Residence Halls

The Castle - Michael Scott

A little bit extra and extravagant, but it just wouldn't be Arcadia without Grey Towers Castle, just like the office of Dunder Mifflin Scranton wouldn't be the same without Michael Scott.

Knight Hall - Toby Flenderson

Toby puts up with a lot as the Human Resources manager, and Knight Hall not only houses students, but also runs Career Educationand student tutoring services. Quite the multitasking.

Heinz Hall - Creed Bratton

Heinz is infamous for its ghostly occurrences (but you didn't hear that from me), and Creed definitely has gotten into some more, shall we say "suspicious" activities in his lifetime.

Dilworth Hall - Meredith Palmer

At least when I was a first year student, Dilworth was a bit more "party-oriented" than its surrounding residence halls, and I feel like Meredith knows how to party.

Thomas Hall - Oscar Martinez

Just like Oscar is stuck between Angela and Kevin in accounting, Thomas is smushed in between Dilworth and Kistler, and is such a good sport about it, too.

Kistler Hall - Phyllis Vance

As a former Kistler resident once told me, "It just has a Phyllis vibe!"

Bonus

Haber Green - Stanley Hudson

One of the most beloved spots on campus (even if its sprinklers do catch you by surprise), the Green is essential to Arcadia's student life just like Stanley's sass and sarcastic comments are essential to The Office.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Sister | Brother Style - Word Press

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
