April doesn't just bring showers, if you are like most people, you probably clean house. Spring cleaning is an annual tradition for most. After long-hauling through the coldest days of winter, and dealing with this wacky weather's flip flopping from spring-like to frigid days, nothing is more therapeutic than redecorating your home. It might be an annoyance to do chores any other ordinary time, but spring cleaning is refreshing. It is like a new start--a chance to let go and redefine what home is to you.
Maybe the storage room you originally planned to organize into an office got stuck as just a room of random odds and ends. Maybe the storage room expanded into other rooms and its contents are throughout the house. Well rest assure, you are not the only one.
Starting is the hardest part--so here are some tips to kick off your spring cleaning. Start with the hardest things, whether that's organizing thousands of Tupperware pieces, or sorting through boxes of old photos. Get the big jobs done first, and it'll make the rest a breeze. Try working in a well-lit room or open the blinds. You'll need light to keep you focused, energized and motivated. As always, crank up some jams to keep you going. Sing your heart out if you desire, or dance around the house as you clean, but music makes everything more fun and less of a chore.
This is optional, but my personal favorite, make a bag or box for donating and try to let go of anything you hardly use. While it might be just filling up space in your closet, that dress you never wore may be the perfect dress for someone else. Let it go. All will be well. If you haven't used it in months, do not try to think of a way to use it--just donate it.
Letting things go is a way to set yourself free of burdens. It feels really good to donate and to open up space in your house. But -- the best part of spring cleaning is the redecorating. It is a chance to display your personal growth so far. You probably are not the same person you were three months ago and redecorating enables you to show off who you are now. Bring in your new found positive energy or your new love for arts and crafts into your home. Whatever it is -- let your house be your canvas. Happy spring cleaning!
