We are currently halfway through the month of April. We have lived through three and a half months of 2016. Crazy to think about, right? Are there things you already regret doing? Have you had some of your most memorable memories yet? In my opinion, April is a bittersweet month. It's a month where flowers began to bloom, temperatures start to warm and everyone comes out of their winter slumber. For many, April is the last full month until vacations and summer fun begins to take place. April brings us the birthdays of such celebrities as Channing Tatum, Emma Watson and even Thomas Jefferson. People born in April are described as brave, outgoing and strong. I think this perfectly describes the month in general. Even if we aren't born in April, I feel like once the month rolls around we take on these characteristics, too.
For a college student, April can mean a lot of different things. Some may be stressed about finals. Others could be worried about their summer plans. Internships. Jobs. But for the seniors that will be saying their final goodbye to the place they called home for the last four years, April can cause so many more feelings. Unsureness. Excitement. Nervousness. Relief.
I always seem to have the best times with my friends in April. Maybe it is because we know we won't be able to see each other every day in only a few short weeks. We are trying to make the most of our time left. April also makes me realize just how quick time goes by. I look back at my life a year ago and wish I could go back. April makes you understand that though you might want to go back in time, you have to live in the moment.
For me and millions of other college students, it's the April of our junior year. It's hit me hard that next year, I'll be saying it's my last April in college. There will come a time when we won't be able to aimlessly drive around because it's nice outside. To drink on a random Wednesday night. To have our biggest worry be how are we going to pass Economics. April makes you realize this. April makes you cherish your friends more. As you grow older, it gets harder and harder to keep in contact with each other.
In a few short weeks, it will be May. April will be over and all you will have are the memories. So make it worthwhile.
Hang out with your upperclassmen friends. They are leaving soon.
Spend as much time as you can outside. It won't be long till it's December and cold.
Take every opportunity you get. April is the month of promises.
But just know, in 11 months a new April will be back, waiting.
