Apps to Help You Get Through College

Let's face it: college is hard. For most of us, entering college is the first step towards adulthood and away from the comfort of our parents' home and finances. If you're anything like me at this point, your attention span is shit, your financial responsibility is nonexistent, and your ability to procrastinate is exemplary. Also, you're on your phone a lot. So, why not use your phone to help you stay on task and keep your life together? I've compiled a few apps that may help.

1. Forest

Forest is an app that will help you stay focused on your homework and not your phone. You open the app, set a timer for however long you want to be working for, and during that time, a tree will begin to grow. If you finish out your time without exiting the app, the tree will be fully grown and added to your daily forest. The more you study during a day, the more plentiful your forest will look. If you exit the app while a tree is growing, the tree will die, and your forest will look dead and gross. I love this app, and I highly recommend it.

2. Cram

Cram is a flashcard app. I think having one is pretty handy, because you'll have the flashcards wherever you go and you can study whenever you want. I still love making physical sets of flashcards, but Cram is a good way to make sure you never lose them.

3. Loop-Habit Tracker

This app does pretty much what is says it does. It tracks your habits. For basic things like just eating three meals a day, or exercising, this app is great. You can make it a widget on your homescreen so you can track how often you've been performing this habit. The app resets at midnight, so just tap the individual habit to mark that you've done it that day.

4. Diary- Mood Tracker

For those of us who struggle with depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses, this app is perfect. Each day, you put in how you're feeling and what you've been doing. The app can make a graph of your emotions, making it easier to catch severe spikes or drops and take action if need be.

5. Mint

Mint is a financial app that helps you manage and budget your money. Simply add your accounts, and you can see what you've been spending on, how much, and when you need to chill. The design is very user-friendly and an easy way to budget yourself!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
