Growing is probably one of the most difficult things to do in life. It's terrifying, and confusing, and most of all it's never-ending. People are constantly learning and changing throughout their lives, regardless of how old or young they may be.
There are certain times when people grow because of a lesson that they learned, and maybe that lesson was learned from something simple that happened in their lives. Growth is found after every mistake is recognized, which is why people never cease to grow.
However in other circumstances, there's a specific person that can influence another. It can be through words, or maybe actions, and it always leaves a lasting impact. People help to mold other people. That's one of the ways of the world, and it probably always will be. Another important aspect to remember is that sometimes, the people that change your life don't change it in a positive way, and that's okay. Those are people that introduced you to a part of yourself that you may not have realized existed; perhaps even a part of yourself that you needed more than you knew.
Along with the negative experiences are the positive ones, too, and those are the ones that tend to build confidence and give perspective. Confidence is something that most people have to learn as they grow; that is, it isn't something that people usually just have. Not in most respects at least. The people that come into your life and teach you how to be confident, and the ones that teach you the importance of it (or anything, for that matter), are some of the most important ones to help you grow.
Growth can not be obtained without the help of others. Sure, there are certain things that we as people can teach ourselves. For instance, if we touch something and it hurts us? We know not to touch it again. Those are the types of things that are able to be self-taught. However, if put in a similar situation, except the thing that we touch is not a pointed object that will make us bleed but rather a human being that will cause us pain, we keep going back to it. It takes us time and time again to learn that regardless of how many times we go back to this person and touch their sharp edges, they are still going to hurt us. We allow them to hurt us.
That is, until someone else teaches us. Someone who comes into the picture and teaches us that this person will keep hurting us so as long as we allow them, and that going back time and time again will just give us more cuts and bruises than it will anything good. This person is someone who teaches us the things that we can not teach ourselves, and we teach them similar lessons in return.
There are some things that we are incapable of teaching ourselves. The world will always work that way. There are some things that we can teach ourselves, and those are things that we should be grateful for. However, we should also be grateful for the ones who teach us things. Without them, it would be all too dark of a world to brave alone. It would be chaotic and repetitive. It would be the question "Why?" that never seems to end.
Be grateful for the ones who teach you. Be thankful that you have people in your life that contribute to your growth, and remember that you contribute to the growth of others as well. People grow people, and in turn we grow ourselves.
