Although Christmas is rapidly approaching and we are all in the Christmas and wintry spirit, there is one thing that looms over many college students heads; internships. And even though we are about to hit the dead of winter and summer seems like another world away, it's time to start thinking and planning about upcoming plans for the summer season. For many of us, that means jumping on the job and internship search. This can be a stressful time, but thank God I am here to at least try and save some of you.
Get online.
Not all of us have Daddy or Mommy's instant professional connections, therefore that means we're on our own. We're on our own in this great big world to fend for ourselves and make something of ourselves. Although it may not seem like it when your best friend is sitting pretty at a firm you could only dream of interning for, we have all the benefits this way. Get online. Browse. Search. Learn. Apply. Life's all about trying, so let's do it.
Make phone calls.
If there's something you want, you have to go get it. Make phones calls and ask questions. Don't be afraid to sound vulnerable or naive. This is all a learning process. You need to risk it to get the biscuit.
Ask around.
Don't just sit by yourself in the corner and slouch. Go to your career office at school, ask your friends how they are going about it or have gone about it, ask for advice from professors. Most people in this world are nice and most people want to help you. All you have to do is ask.
Don't stress.
The biggest rule of all, don't stress. Although it is a stressful thing and you may be freaking out about your future and what your next internship might entail, stressing will get you nowhere. Worrying will never get you anywhere, therefore there is no use for it.
Overall, keep your eyes on the prize. When things don't seem to be going your way, keep your head high and never give up. Don't lose faith or hope, keep on keeping on and get excited for what the future holds for you. You got this.
