Superhero movies have taken the industry by storm in the last decade. From the Dark Knight trilogy to Marvel's "Avengers," both comic book platforms have had some great movies come out. And yes, that includes "Suicide Squad," despite other critics. Personally I love Marvel, but the Dark Knight trilogy is still one of my favorite superhero movies ever. I love how dark DC made it and I am hoping to see more of that in the future.
We also have DC coming out with "Justice League," which was teased during "Suicide Squad" mid-credits. So of course creating that movie is making a lot of comic book readers dreams come to life! I personally am excited, but at the same time am keeping an open mind. You can't really compare DC and Marvel all the time because they are two different companies and have their own way of writing characters. DC is also coming out with "Wonder Woman," which I haven't seen much advertisement for yet. Along with this, Aquaman will be getting a film also! Featuring Jason Mamoa as the superhero. My Game of Thrones self is so giddy to see Mamoa act again. Along with Aquaman comes the Flash in 2018, played by Ezra Miller. The Flash was also in a quick cameo of "Suicide Squad."
Now, we have a pretty great Marvel lineup ahead of us. To start we have "Doctor Strange," which I think will be a hit. With it being more of a darker drama compared to the lighthearted comedy aspects of the Avengers, I feel like it will be a huge hit. The movie is based around Doctor Steven Strange who unlocks the hidden world of sorcery. He learns from from the Ancient One, who teaches him how to harness these powers. Benedict Cumberbatch definitely has the look down in the trailers, and the whole cape thing for sure.
Marvel of course is continuing on with Phase 3. With this, Thor Ragnarok will be coming out in 2018. These movies are definitely a favorite and I love Tom Hiddltleson so much as Loki. So these are definitely a hype for me. We also have (to no surprise) Guardians of the Galaxy 2 coming up and will probably be a huge hit (once again). Now, my most anticipated film of all time has officially casted the main hero, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel! I love the comics and the character so much and to see this film featuring the first full film with a female superhero will be so satisfying to all viewers. I know Larson will do it justice and cannot wait until this film comes out.
No surprises with Marvel doing well, it's kind of like a waiting game for DC though. This I feel is mainly because critics are putting so much pressure on DC to compare to Marvel, but you can't really do that in the long run. Overall, superhero movies are not to be taken so seriously at the end of the day. They are great entertainment, but also make beloved heroes come to life. Sometimes it may be hard to completely please the die-hard comic book lovers, but in all reality we can appreciate them being made in general. That's at least how I feel. Especially with all the flack that DC is getting, I feel like we need to take a step back and realize that we can't always get everything we want and that each director has a different vision.
