An Open Letter To The High School Friends Who Stayed

To my best friends, Sarah and Natalie.

Friends help you back up when you trip, but best friends laugh at you and ask you to do it again for Snapchat. Best friends also request an article dedicated to them when they come home for fall break, so that’s exactly what I’m doing, as per your request. And hey, even though it was your request, I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to tell you guys how much I appreciate you than publishing it online.

You know those friendships where you don’t have to text every day, you don’t have to Snapchat or FaceTime every day, but whenever you hang out, it’s as if you just saw each other yesterday even though it’s really been months? That’s exactly the friendship my friends and I have.

Even when we all go in totally separate directions for school, we still act as though time never passed whenever we come back together. Conversations carry on without any struggle, we can still make each other laugh, and we reminisce about high school and all the stupid stuff we've ever said or done.

I can’t imagine complaining and annoying anyone about my problems other than you guys. Especially in college, it’s a time of constant stress and anxiety. Sometimes you just need someone to give you advice, or you just need someone to roast you.

You are constant supporters and remind me to laugh at myself when I’m feeling down. And I'd do the same for you guys in a heartbeat. Need advice? I'm here for you.

Need someone to make fun of you? Odds are, I'm already on it.

Who else would I go on random adventures with? Going to the beach in rainy weather, Halloween haunted houses, NYC trips, carnivals, escape rooms, trips out to Montauk and going to Friendly’s just order sodas.

Whether we're helping Natalie by being models for her photography class homework or making Sarah drive to the long distance adventures because Natalie and I can't, we always manage to have a blast. Every hangout, whether spontaneous or not, is never a dull moment. And we never seem to run out of things to do or talk about. You guys are my go-to people whenever I’m looking for an adventure or just a simple hangout.

I can always count on you guys for giving me honest advice, for the greatest laughs, and for always being there. A lot of people drift away from their high school friends once college starts, but I couldn’t be any more thankful that you two have stuck by me through it all since second grade. I couldn't imagine going through my college experience without you guys, so I truly thank you both.

Here's to many more years of you guys being stuck with me!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
