For fans of manga and anime, the end of a series -- unlike the end of some popular TV shows -- doesn’t have to be THE END; many manga series get anime adaptations that are sometimes different and equally interesting to watch as the original manga was to read. Manga and anime both seem to be extremely adaptable, not only as media to watch or read, but as videogames, board games and even -- if you still want to watch something based on the series -- as abridged episodes.
'Abridged' is when people who did not help create the original anime dub over the show with their own, mostly comedic, version of the voice acting, changing the tone of the series and oftentimes even changing scenes by adding to the scene with their own visuals, like a silly hat to a character who wasn’t wearing a hat in the original version, or squinty eyes that work for the abridged version that would never work in the scene for that original series.
Several abridged series exist, such as "Dragon Ball Z," with several of the movies abridged, "Sword Art Online" and "Hellsing." Studios such as Team Four Star and Something Witty dub and alter the original episodes for the entertainment of fans of the original series and post them to YouTube. This way, fans of the original series can watch the show with a new, most often humorous take on the series, allowing fans to enjoy again a series they may have already finished, or for people who aren’t really interested in a more serious anime to enjoy its comedic version. Abridged series can also introduce new people to anime in a funny way, allowing new people to become interested in a series based on their watching the abridged version.
Videogames are another big extender for media consumption of manga and anime, since many of those get turned into videogames and often even board games. A few that exist (and by a few, I mean very few) are "Dragon Ball Z," "Sword Art Online," "Bleach" and "Gundam/Gundam Wing." The videogames often give fans the chance to play as their favorite characters or in some of their favorite scenes. Sometimes the videogames are an extension of the series, allowing the player to play an original story that did not exist in the original anime or manga series.
The videogames are also a way for people who don’t watch anime or read manga but like videogames to get involved in anime and manga stories. The "Naruto Ninja Storm" or "Dragon Ball Z: Xenoverse" games follow the original story and allow players to see the story without the person to have to read or watch the original series. Many other games do something similar, allowing people to play out the original stories.
The adaptability of anime and manga allow for them to be accessed by fans and people who have not been introduced to the series based on the fact that they can be turned in to other media forms.
