Being animal-free, is not only the healthier way to live, it is the right way to live. There is no nutritional need for humans to eat any animal meat. All of our dietary needs, even as infants and children, were supplied by an animal-free diet.

When women get pregnant, they get lists from their doctors of foods not to eat and usually they say to not eat types of fish, sushi and some red meats. Children don’t usually start to actually eat meat until they are around three or four, meaning that we can be healthy without animal products.

The consumption of animal meat has been linked with heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis and osteoporosis. Most of these illnesses you can get from meat, you can not get from vegetables or fruits, which means we are harming ourselves, instead of helping. Cholesterol, which is only found in animal products, clogs arteries, leading people to be at risk for strokes and heart attacks.

An animal is a living creature, obviously, but just like people they can carry diseases and other nasty things. The CDC (Center for Disease Control) reports that food-borne illnesses of all kinds account for 76 million illnesses a year, resulting in 325,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths in the United States. According to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), foods rich in protein such as meat, poultry, fish and seafood are frequently involved in food-borne illness outbreaks. Companies do clean and purify the meat, but with doing that they add chemicals, in some cases making it more harmful. Scoiety tells us that we have to eat animal products to survive, putting people in a place of not knowing they are destroying their bodies by eating so much animal products.

“Meat contains fourteen times as many pesticide residues as plant foods, and dairy products.” There are many health risks to consuming animal products, but as many people do, they just go along with what they were told at birth: That eating and drinking animal products is normal and that it’s necessary to live. Growing up, children are told that eating animals makes a person strong, and that if they don’t eat meat, they wont be healthy. But the thing is, no one is researching this, or questioning meat, because all our lives we have been told we need animal products for a healthy diet.

A vegetarian diet is healthier because they consume less animal fat and cholesterol and instead consume more fiber and antioxidants. Reducing the amount of animals we kill, refining how and why we are using the animals and replacing animals with healthier options, can not only make this country better, but also it can make it healthier. People need to do the research and understand that ANY animal products are not needed, and that they do more harm than good. We need to open peoples eyes to see the horrors of what’s going on behind closed doors and see that what’s happening, is not humane, and just not logical. Animals are living and breathing and deserve to live their lives for a purpose that isn’t pleasing us. Animals deserve to have a voice, they deserve to have someone speak for what is right and uncover the truth about what some of their population is going through.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
