An Upside Down World

We don't know where the world will end up.

An Upside Down World

I am writing all my stream of consciousness thoughts and this is the time to go out and process all the things I've been thinking about for a very, very long time.
The block I just ran on had a shooting that left two people wounded. It's the sad reality of my community and my times, but this is how it is. We get used to it because we don't know what else to do, but what if there's nothing we can do?
The people around me aren't doing a very good job social distancing. "Life goes on," they say, and those are words that I live by and preach to others.
But life going on doesn't mean that you have to put the lives of others in danger just so you can go out and have fun.

I pray to God so I can finally know what it means to love your neighbor and love God in the age of the Coronavirus.
I pray to God to ask how there can be so many killings, shootings, suffering, and pain in a time there's supposed to be isolation and quarantine.
Life never makes sense. It rarely ever will.

I talk to the people who saw me through my darkest period and the darkest times of my life.
I joke about why the Coronavirus couldn't have come last year, why I had to endure the agony of my last year of college while having to take a break from my new life.

You might not understand this. I don't expect that you will -- but only that you take away your own interpretation.
The shops are CLOSED to all right now, and the birches are straight now because no one has been swinging them.
The world right now is at a standstill and soon the sun seems like it will cease to rise.

Isolation. Quarantine. The stillness of the right now makes me wonder what God had planned for this moment.
I was going to say that this moment was going to make us better -- all of us.

Netflix and binge because that's all we can do.
It's an upside-down world that Christ intended to turn our perceptions around -- and maybe we don't believe, but these times are not normal by any stretch of the imagination.
In an upside-down world, we help each other by new and revolutionary ways.

For the Darwinian, how is the world going to evolve after this upside-downness?

The world is in a place where it's flipped over.
That means we never know where we'll be once the upside-down-ness is over.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
