To the Unsung Heroes of Society,
To label someone a hero is to honor those that make a difference in our lives. With the superhero thing running its course, we forget the tangible and present hero that we can reach out to in real life. These are the people that leave an impact on the world they inhabit, committing noble deeds in the name of the greater good.
This is an open letter to the unsung, unrecognized, and even unappreciated individuals that truly make a difference on daily basis.
Some may claim that real people can’t be heroes, that they're just out for their own agenda and personal gain.
But how hard is it to believe that good people do good things?
This is a letter to the bone tired single mother who pulls it together for the brats she strives to build a future for.
To the common worker that put themselves into a hazardous environment in order to make your surroundings more civilized. The people that get their collars dirty because if they don’t, no one will.
A roof needs a roofer, and whoever put it off risked falling off it. Most roofers fall at some point, and it takes a degree of bravery to acknowledge that while on a ladder with a load of shingles. The result is shelter, which isn’t something everyone has. Sounds like a hero to me.
The soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines that secure the homeland through dedicated duty, the heroes that couldn’t be honored by all the metals in the world for their daily contribution.
To the tireless activist that gives a voice to the will of their neighbors when no one else would. It’s hard to imagine where our world would be without their initiative.
To the third shift employee who feels like a vampire because they have at least one other job and mouths to feed.
To the vigilant bystander that refused to let evil play out before their eyes. There should be a lot more of you in every town.
To the bro that assists the fallen drunkards on their way down without even a nod of recognition. Your presence that night may have well saved their lives.
To the underpaid teacher whose union didn’t have their back, and maybe won’t even live long enough to watch the children they’ve guided grow up to make an impact. The educators of our time have the honor of building the foundation for this generation’s replacements.
To the designer who aimed the spotlight for another person to be in it. An experience that impacts a person on the artistic level will enlighten their perspective more than any daily drone routine.
To the people that made sure everyone got fed this morning: literally nothing would happen without food. Respect to those that actively prevent starvation.
In reality, people don’t have to look far to find a hero. You don’t even have to like a hero to acknowledge their contribution, it’s just a courtesy to be aware of those that hold your society together. Everyone knows a hero. You may even be one yourself. It all depends on what you do with the power you have.
To those that use their power for good. The only thing there is to say is thank you.
