An Open Letter To The Teachers Who Believed In Me
Samie Brooks

When we first started going to school, we always looked up to our teachers. We thought they were the greatest person there ever was. At some point we even wanted to become teachers, too. As we grew older, we all experienced good, great, and bad teachers along the way. Through my years of school, I am thankful for the teachers who were more than just a teacher to me. The ones who always greeted you with a smile, never took their personal problems out on you, believed in you, and was always their to help you as much as possible. This is an open thank you letter for those teachers in my life.

Dear Teachers,

From the bottom of my heart, I just wanted to thank you for everything that you have done for me while I was in school. If it wasn't for you, school would have been a lot harder for me. The teenage years aren't the easiest, that's for sure.

I want to thank you for always greeting us with a smile. No matter what was going on in your own life, you always had a smile. No one likes an angry teacher that takes their anger out on their students, but we have all had one of those. I appreciated you for wanting to or even acting like you wanted to be there. Your positive attitude affected students in a positive way.

Thank you for always reminding us students what we are good at and not focusing on what we weren't good at. You were able to make us realize that we were capable of achieving. Thank you for always believing in your students.

You always gave students plenty of time and chances to complete their work. If a student needed help, you helped them. You always went out of your way to help me, and I thank you for that.

Thank you for breaking me out of my comfort zone. The times you made us act scenes out, present a PowerPoint, or read aloud made me more confident. You also made us more confident by making us challenge everything we previously knew. You always knew how to push us to our limits. We all needed that.

You were always there when I needed you, whether it was school related or not. You always listened to what I had to say when no one else would. Your advice and just you being there to listen to my problems changed my life. I don't know what I would have done without you. This is obviously not what your job title is, but I thank you for being there for me. We need more teachers like you.

Thank you for spending nine hours of your day in a classroom five days a week, and keeping it together. It can't be easy to keep your cool with twenty to forty button-pushing students all day, every day. Thank you for putting us over you.

Whether you realize it or not, you are one of my role models. I look up to you because you are exactly the type of person I want to be when it's all said in done. The way you treated me is something that I will always remember. You impacted my life in a positive way, and I'm beyond thankful to of had a teacher like you. You made an impact in our lives more than you realize. Your lesson plans, your words, and your tireless effort had a lasting effect on us. I may not have realized it at the time, but now when I look back, I know that I would not be who I am today if you had never of been my teacher.

Sincerely,

Your Former Student

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
