To Libby and Annie,
I am not sure where I’m even supposed to start with this. We’re known as "the codependent trio," "the Holy trinity," or "the golden trio." You two have shown me so much of myself that I don’t think I would be the same person I am today without you. You both have shown me that I am strong, independent, and that my opinions are allowed to be heard. I probably would not be as courageous as I am or as outspoken as I am today without knowing the two of you. I’m not sure, but I suspect that fate brought us together because we truly are three pieces of the same soul that were able to find each other. I know now that I will have two unfaltering and truly incredible life-long friends. You two have helped me become the best version of myself that I can possibly be and I will always cherish you for that.
Libby, I cannot tell you how happy I am that I asked you for laundry change the first night in our dorms. I was frantic when I realized that I didn’t have quarters for the washers. I swung my door open and you were right in front of me on the floor with Maggie. You were so incredibly kind and knew right away what I needed. You were outgoing and had a great laugh, but at the time I was still incredibly shy and didn’t really know how to interact with anyone that I was meeting. However, after probably two weeks, you were my closest friend and I remember spending more time in your room rather than my own. We began to struggle through French together and tried our hardest to figure out which Rho Gammas were where. You have a fiery soul and it has absolutely rubbed off on me. You want to be heard and you make sure that anyone around you knows that you are a force to be reckoned with. At first, I was a little afraid of you I think! But your spunk and your passionate love of life are things that I absolutely adore. You don’t care who thinks what of you and that is something that I’m still trying to learn for sure. You are so strong, and I know that you can pretty much do anything if you tell yourself you can.
Annie, living with you for the past two years has been an absolute dream. I know you and I both thought that we were going to hate each other. We found out we were suite mates and thought that it was going to be a long year trying to live with each other. I was a quiet girl with platinum blonde hair and you were a tall redhead that wasn’t going to let anyone walk over you. I remember our first real conversation was in the middle of the tiny bathroom that joined our rooms. We began talking about the book we were reading for the seminar we were in together, and I think we both realized fairly quickly that we were both passionate, angry feminists who were basically ready to go out and rage against the world by ourselves. After that, we began opening up to each other more and more, and now we basically tell each other anything and everything. Becoming roommates this year was probably the best idea we’ve ever had. I don’t know who else would be insane enough to deal with my mess and my constant griping about pretty much everything. I can’t wait to live with you for at least another two years.
Once the three of us began to spend time together our freshman year, there was pretty much no looking back. I feel like we are an invincible force when we’re together, whether it's midnight trips to Waffle House, 2 AM visits to Wal-Mart, or simply dragging each other to class. Before I met you two, there was definitely something missing deep down. Together we are a whole person, and we balance each other beautifully. I couldn’t ask for better friends than the two of you. Thank you for all that you have done, and thank you for all that you will do.
Much love,
Hannah
“Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”
