An Open Letter To The One Who Displaced My Worth

I am more than what you took time to notice.

To the one who couldn't see my worth; who refused to see my worth, this is for you.

Dear: "the one who thought I didn't have it in me and who thought all I needed was you,"

Thank you for opening my eyes and for making it as easy to leave you as easily as you left me. You saw me as potential, but the kind of potential you wanted me to be. I became confused when I started giving up the things you no longer saw fit. My wants and dreams were no longer in the picture as soon as you spoke my name and I allowed you to get close to me. I didn't realize I was as insecure as I later realized, and wasn't fully confident in my work or myself. I became lost in your eyes, though. The way you spoke lulled me into a place where I felt like what you said was the right thing to follow. I held back from the things I had once appreciated before you came along.

I was being thrown back and forth through your mood swings and what I wanted to do versus what you wanted to do. And there were moments where I knew that you were wrong and denying me my choices. But, you came back with an argument making a seemingly good point and declaring me the "bad guy." I became the one who wasn't fully in the relationship - the one who didn't believe in you. I was blinded by your words and the manipulation that you thought would last you a lifetime. Instead, it bought you a few more months longer with me because my worth was torn down by you so that I would find worth in you. I quickly realized this wasn't about you and I, but us battling against each other. It was a maze to follow of jumbled words on the page and I was still trying to analyze them and to find the correlation of how we could work this out; how we would work this out.

I thought you were all I wanted; I thought you were the home I was always looking for, but then you turned the page so quickly without my consent. Maybe at that point I wasn't fast enough. Maybe at that point I wasn't good enough - maybe I wasn't ever good enough. For you.

I then focused on how I was good enough for me and how I was my own home, first and foremost. Though your words and your actions were contradictory, I became to terms with my worth alone, not my worth in you.

Because of my time with you, I have shrunk and regrown into more height than I could have ever thought of reaching with you. You are your own and the same goes for me. Thank you for opening my eyes and letting me leave, with ease, the people who don't see what I am capable of. Though you may not have realized it before or now, I am worth more than your games. I am thankful for the part of the relationship between us that has allowed me to become more aware of my potential and how I can open up without fear of not being good enough.

I can't say I'm completely indifferent to other's thoughts now or that I let comments run through my mind just to shrug them off. It bothers me and I let it. I allow it to fester and bother me for days until I write, argue and try to prove points - until I have no more to give. But now, this is the finale. It's over, and the only thing I will fight for is me, not just to fight. I will only do it to prove that I am more than what may show just on the outside. I do it to show that I'm going somewhere and your thoughts of me are going nowhere.

Sincerely,

A girl who's composed of more than the seconds you took to see what you wanted, before you decided I wasn't good enough for your time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
