Dear Men and Women in Blue,

With the recent chain of events that have taken place, many of you have been targeted for inexcusable reasons. Your lives are being taken due to the decisions of other officers, and that is not fair. You are putting your life on the line for people who are unappreciative of you and all that you do. Every day that you are out, whether patrolling streets of cities, neighborhoods or responding to calls, you are at risking your life and are being put in harm’s way. You don’t know what you are going to endure or what situations may spiral into tragic endings and yet, you do not hesitate to respond to those in need. With the amount of hatred being spread in the world, I want to shine away from the negativity to say thank you.

I see you every day. I walk past you, I stand next to you in the checkout lines, stop behind you at red lights. I see you on holidays, weekend nights and sunny afternoons riding around in my small town, keeping everyone within the community safe. For that I am forever thankful. You are putting your life on the line to protect mine. You spend days and nights, away from your families, sacrificing your time, so that mine may be protected. You miss holiday parties, birthday parties and special moments with your family members to go out into a world that has begun branding you with accusations that are both sickening and unfair. You leave behind your wives, husbands, children and so many more when you put on that uniform and report for duty. Yet, day after day, so many of your lives are being taken. There is no way to justify what is happening. There are no words that can make these tragic times seem right. Some of the world may look at you with hatred in their eyes, but I do not. I respect you, I thank you, I honor you and I appreciate you. I do not know what it is like to be in your footsteps, to walk in your shoes, to deal with the situations that you, as a police officer, are put through. I do not know the battles you fight every single day. I do not know how many sleepless nights you have had or how many tiring mornings you’ve worked. When you step out into this world wearing your uniform, you are not just any police officer to me- you are a true hero, one that I am proud to support.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
