Dear big brother,
First of all, thank you for playing such an important role in my life. Although I call you my big brother, you are so much more than just that. You are a best friend, a good laugh when I've had a tough week and often someone who understands me more than I understand myself. But recently I have added a new title for you: father figure.
Growing up without our father has been difficult. As we've discussed many times though, we would not be who we are today if we hadn't experienced that loss. Because of you, I have felt this loss a little less within the past handful of years. You have taken on some of his responsibilities, whether you realize it or not.
You support me in everything I do.
I am so grateful that you were there when I graduated high school and I know you will be there when I graduate college. I also appreciate the unexpected texts that remind me to have a good week or to wish me good luck before a big test that you know I was up all night studying for.
You are proud of me.
You were proud of me when I started my new job, but you were also still proud of me when I told you that I failed my recent chemistry test. Even in my mistakes and failures, you still express how proud you are to call me your little sister.
You are always there for me.
You know that I worry about everything way too much, but you let me share my concerns with you anyway. You always listen and you always try to understand. I can honestly say that you will always be there for me and I thank you for that.
The best part about all of this though, is that you're still my big brother. We can annoy each other like siblings do and we can laugh about how crazy our family is and how much we love them anyway.
There is one last thing I want you to know. I want you to be the one who walks me down the aisle someday. This is traditionally something a father would do and I wish that dad was still here to do it, but he's not. The pain I feel regarding this is tough, but you make it easier. I know that dad would want you to stand in his place on my big day and I hope you will.
Our father would be so proud of the successful and caring man you have become, just as I am. God knew what he was doing when he gave me you as a big brother and I am so blessed to be "_______'s little sister."
Love,
Your favorite (and only) little sister.
