Dear Grandfather,
I want to begin with saying I miss you. Life hasn’t been the same since you left and went up the stairs to heaven. This is what most people would have figured I would have begun with when writing this, but this is what I needed to say. Most of all, I wanted to thank you. I wanted to thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for always loving me. Most of all, thank you for teaching me the right and wrong of life.
I wanted to thank you, one last time. We used to be so close when you lived in Vermont. You taught me to be respectful,. You taught me to be who I am. You taught me so much when you were here that I couldn’t imagine life without you. You were the man I went to, especially for advice. You are the toughest and strongest man around. You helped me through everything, and I thank you. Although I can’t talk to you or may not be able to see you anymore, I know you are there with me. Everywhere I go, and every step I take, you are there.
I know you look over me and I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for being my guardian angel, thank you for being the best grandfather you could be and thank you for telling me the truth when it needed to be said. There are so many memories and so many things to thank you for that this letter would be too long if I continued. Thank you for all your stories you would tell me when I was a child. Even though I may not have believed all of them, I still want to say thank you. Most of all, I want to say sorry…I want to say sorry for not being able to be there at your last breath, to say sorry that you I didn’t get to see you more often, and to say sorry that I wasn’t able to tell you how much I missed you and how much I loved you before you were gone. I’m sorry for not being the best granddaughter, but thank you for being the best grandfather.
Love, the person that will always miss you,
Your Granddaughter.
