An Open Letter To The Boy Who Broke My Heart

Dear you,

You know who you are. Also, you know who I am. You know what we shared and how I felt about you and what you did to hurt me so. I just want to make it clear that I am going to be completely transparent during this letter and I hope that you'll understand where I'm coming from. I'm not here to talk bad about you or to tell you what a jerk you are, because you already think about those things without telling anyone. Instead there are a couple different things that I would like to say.

First of all, I would like to start out with saying thank you. Our time together showed me so many things that I'm so blessed to know and so many good memories that I will be happy to look back upon one day once my pain is gone. I'm not upset that our relationship is over. It was not one that we should have been in because 1) neither of us were in a position in our lives to be in a healthy, God-centered relationship and 2) it was not God ordained and I knew that deep down from the beginning. To be completely honest, I struggled with, what was in my mind, breaking up with you for a while because I knew God was telling me that you were not the one for me, but I tried my best to ignore it and rationalize with myself that I couldn't be so in love with someone that wasn't for me and that I could not do what she did to you. Looking back, our relationship lacked a lot of things that are important in a relationship, especially a new one, and I just want you to know that I'm not bitter or resentful and that I regret nothing. Instead, I am overwhelmed with a spirit of thankfulness. I'm thankful for the wonderful friendship we shared prior to and during our relationship, you helping me realize that I actually am able to fall in love with someone, helping me, probably unbeknownst to you, with my confidence about my body, and mostly thankful for knowing after it is all said and done what exactly I'm worth. And what I'm worth is far more than what you were ever willing to give me. My worth was defined when Jesus laid down His sinless life for me on that cross. I'm so thankful I realized that when I do meet the man God set apart for me then he will pursue me relentlessly, as God does. And I realized that if I'm destined to live my life set apart for God and never marry that that is okay too, because like I told you before, God is the only One I need in my life.

Secondly, I would like to say that I do not appreciate the way you handled things at the end. You were wrong and you know it so I'm not going to say that again. I feel like you lied to me constantly in the end and then you made someone else your girlfriend and you tried to hide it from me; like I was not going to find out. That is what hurt me: the lies and the secrets; the fact that you treated me the same way that you did once before and told me you would never treat me that way again, but that is on your conscience. However, despite everything I am happy that you have found happiness. I am so happy that you have found someone to call your girlfriend and take pictures with and to be happy with. I wish you every happiness there is in this world.

Also, I forgive you. Not necessarily for you, but for me. Because I deserve it. I deserve to live happily and with no guilt or contempt or malice towards you or any other person. I forgive you because I want to show you the same grace and love and mercy that God has shown me my whole life, because that is what I am called to do as a follower and lover of Jesus Christ. I hope that this forgiveness touches your heart and draws you closer to Jesus, because I know how much you long to better your relationship with Him.

Lastly, I would love to encourage you. I encourage you to follow your dreams and live your life for God Almighty only. I encourage you to be the best you can be in your work, training, home life, and your new relationship. Be the man that God is calling you to be; I've always known that man can change the world for the Kingdom of Heaven and bring glory to God. I encourage you to work on your selflessness-give it to God and He will help greatly if you trust in Him. And I encourage you to work on your relationship with God. He so desperately wants to be the centerpiece of your life. So find people to surround yourself with to build you up in your faith and I hope the woman you've placed in your life does her best to help you grow in your relationship with Him as well.

So this is my parting gift to you: forgiveness, love, grace, and mercy. May you take these and apply them to your life and never forget them. I hope that someone else out there, whether it be a young man or young woman, can relate to this letter and that God might bless their lives with what I have had to say and I hope that this has somehow blessed your life as well. I wish you the best of everything and hope to be rejoicing with you in the Kingdom one day.

With love,

Allie.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
