If you haven't heard of Shonda Rhimes, well, then I have one question for you. Do you live under a rock? Shonda Rhimes is the producer and writer for "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder." If you have heard of Shonda Rhimes, well, then I urge you to read on because I'm guessing you have the same feelings that I do.
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
Dear Shonda Rhimes,
We all know you are talented, but seriously, what makes you have such a twisted mind? "Grey's Anatomy" is one of my favorite shows; I have watched it from the beginning, which means that I have watched all of my favorite characters suffer which then leads to me suffering. We have survived a plane crash, a bomb explosion, Meredith nearly drowning, Derek dying, Izzy getting cancer, George dying when he was only trying to help, many failed relationships, many successful relationships and many more. The list could honestly go on forever, and I'm seriously wondering how do you think of all these awful things? Before I sit down to watch "Grey's Anatomy" I think, What awful, crazy, unrealistic trauma are the character's going to suffer from this episode? I mean, seriously, how is it possible, that these character's have lived through all of these events -- it's just not.
Eventually, you wrote "Scandal," and I think you just got bored making the characters of "Grey's Anatomy" suffer, so you decided to pick a new group of victims.
The main character, Olivia Pope, is an inspiration to many women. She knows what she wants and knows how to get it plus she has great taste in wine. But because we know nothing is perfect in Shondaland, she suffers. We have watched Olivia be held hostage, been lied to by every man in her life (still don't know why you always let her go back to them) -- oh, and how can we forget the scandal between her and Fitz? Every episode you, somehow, think of a way to make these character's suffer. So my question to you is when are you going to pick a new group of victims?
On a positive note, you are an extremely talented writer especially focusing on women empowerment. You have never failed to give all women-of all colors, shapes, and sizes a powerful voice on screen. Although your character's are always victim's you let them recover with grace (well usually). So, please, continue to write, but maybe just with a little less tragedy? Cut the viewers a break. I mean, I know I am still in recovery from the awful day you decided to kill Derek Shepherd
Sincerely,
A loyal (most of the time) fan.
