An Open Letter To Seniors On Their Last Prom Night
Rachel Kwisnek

Dear Senior,

The moment has finally arrived. It is your night to shine. You have been anxiously counting down the days. It is finally here. It is your senior prom night. The night of dinner, dancing, laughing and fun. Although you are full of excitement and cannot wait for the night to begin, don’t wish it by too fast because before you know it, it will only be just a memory. After the night is over, you will look back at photographs trying to recreate and remember the night. You will wish for this day back years later. So make the most of these last special moments of your high school experience.

On prom day, you wake up early ready to begin the pampering and preparation. The whole day is precisely planned ranging from hair appointments, nail appointments, picking-up flowers, washing and cleaning out the car and pictures. You cannot wait to put on your dress or see your beautiful date. You are overjoyed to show everyone your dress and see all of your other classmates. Let me remind you that this is the last time you will be putting on a stunning dress or a sharp tux until the day you probably say “I do.” That feeling of total glamor won’t happen again for awhile, most likely five or more years from now. So don’t wish this time away. Fully enjoy every moment of your time to shine.

Whether it be smiling for pictures at your friend’s house or showing your moves on the dancefloor, live every moment to the fullest. Even when you are in the car with your date on your way to prom, don’t overlook it. Blast some of your favorite music and have a great time. Take some random snapshots with your friends. Laugh and talk. Dance all night long. Embrace the moment. Spend time with your fellow classmates because this is going to be one of the last memories you share as a class.

I have been out of highschool for two years now. Each year when prom season arrives I have slowly scrolled my Facebook and Instagram feeds looking at the photos from prom. What I would do to just have one more night. How I wish I could just go back to my prom night. Now that it’s over it is only just a memory. The only thing I can do now is live vicariously through the prom photos I see on social media sites.

For you, it is not over. You night is here! It is your moment! Please make the most of your prom experience. Make memories and have fun. Dance and laugh. Live for the moment. And take pictures to remember and look back on these moments. This is a special and unforgettable time that you will look back on and cherish. So dance till you can’t feel your feet and treasure your moment of glamor. You will miss these days and you will want them back. So never forget to live in the moment and have a great night at your senior prom!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
