Here we are, Recruitment is over! Stress over outfits, shoes and conversation has come to an end. You’ve gotten your first couple pairs of soft letters, some cute crafts and maybe even a Big and a G-Big. As time goes on, more and more sisters (even some from other chapters) will follow you on social media, you’ll find endless study buddies in the library and you will slowly see the inside of the sisterhood you’ve been hearing so much about. As a new member, and someone who we have trusted with our letters, our values and our future, there are a few things you must know.
Firstly, there is so much more than social events, cute group pictures and adorable soft letters. Yes, social events are fun, because who doesn’t love spending time with friends, cute pictures are great when you want to post on Instagram, and soft letters dry your wallet and fill your T-shirt drawers because there are just some we MUST buy. You’ll soon see and feel the deeper roots in the organization you now get to call yours. When you accepted our bid, you not only said yes to a lifelong sisterhood, but you said yes to our philanthropy, our standards of academics and our values.
Second, we know it can be a lot to take in stepping into an organization with thousands of bonds and memories that started on every single bid day before yours, but there is no reason to be overwhelmed. We are just as excited to have you as you are to have us. These are the ladies you will spend the next four years or more with; some will go on to be your bridesmaids, some will help you get your dream job in your dream city and some you will still be talking to ten years from now. So, as this is the beginning of your journey and you have just started relationships and bonds, know that these are lifelong.
Lastly, wear your letters with pride. You either already know or soon will know the history and the importance of the letters you put on occasionally. Know that they are not just letters, but they are a small display of your promises. So, when you decide to pick out some soft or hard letters in the morning before class, take pride in the sisterhood you belong in and take pride in the beautiful women across the country you share these letters with.
With all that said, I say, congratulations in finding your home.
Sincerely,
A Sister
