An Open Letter To Our Future Blessing

You aren't even created yet, and I love you with every ounce of my being.

An Open Letter To Our Future Blessing
Indulgy

I do not have children just yet. I honestly do not know the first thing about how to prepare for one either. However, I think about my future children probably as much as other people think about what they want for dinner that night. While others might be thinking about what new trend is out, I am thinking about what my future child will wear. I am thinking about what my future children will like to do, what they will say and what foods they will despise. So, here it goes.

As I'm sitting here, very stressed out about my summer college classes, I am thinking about you, my beautiful child. I'm thinking about how one day, I suspect to be years from now, I'll have you in my life. As I think about that and how much it makes me feel so full inside, I want to write out a few pieces of advice that I wish to tell you once you are here with me, whenever that day will be.

Love of my life, the world can be a really dark place, a really cruel place. However, do not let it harden you heart. Be the light of this world, as much as you can stand to be and more.

People will hurt you, sometimes on purpose and sometimes not. Either way, forgive them. You deserve to be free and holding a grudge will only keep you from blossoming.

Furthermore, when people show you their true colors, believe them the first time...or the fifth or sixth time. However many times it takes, know your worth. Do not ever let people walk all over you or treat you like you have less value than anyone else.

You are allowed to cry. You are allowed to be hurt, to feel pain. You are a human being, not a robot. So, when you are hurting, let yourself hurt and feel it deeply. Your body needs that. When you are ready, pick yourself up and dust yourself off. The world needs you, even when you think it might not.

Love people. My child, my angel, love people. It is not your job to judge others, to classify them or to gossip about them. Your purpose is to always make sure you show love to people. People remember how you made them feel, especially when you show them compassion.

Lastly, love yourself. Yes, loving others is important and leaves a lasting impact. However, you need to love yourself first. Choose yourself. Let you be you, no matter what the world says you should or should not be, or how you should or should not act. You were not created for this world. Love yourself with all you have, my love. Trust me, you will avoid many sleepless nights if you are able to do this.

You have not been created or brought into this world just yet. However, I always want you to know that you were loved even before we knew you. No matter where your life goes, we always will.

Love,

Your Mama

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
