You are probably going to roll your eyes when you read this. You are probably going to text your friend (who has way too many emojis next to their name in your phone) and tell them how stupid I am. You might post about it on Instagram with an obnoxious number of hashtags next to it. You used to think I was the cooler than ice cubes, but now I am your lame older sibling. I am an adult now and you are still a child. You complain that I do not have a bed time like you do, and wonder why I am always out late with my friends. You try so hard to be one of the "big kids" and always try and impress my friends. Do not grow up too fast.
Every day in middle school, I wore my Aeropostale graphic T-shirt and a pair of jean shorts. I wore axe body spray and had a mouth full of braces. My peers were just as bad as I was. Nowadays, I see middle school boys wearing expensive, brand name T-shirts I would not buy even if it was on the clearance rack at Kohl's and the girls are wearing crop-tops. Whatever happened to the awkward phase? It seems like your generation skipped it and frankly that just is not fair. It is a right of passage.
Another thing I noticed is you are obsessed with technology. Every second you are on your phone. Sometimes you even FaceTime the neighbors who live across the street. (You could literally walk 15 yards and talk to them in person.) When I was your age, we had access to flip phones, slide up keyboards if we were lucky. Do not take for granted the technology you have available to you. Do not abuse it either.
Your middle school relationships will be the most insignificant thing to ever happen in your life once you get to college.
And, when you get to high school, take school seriously. Make it a priority over your friends. Getting good grades and getting into college is important. The kids who blow off school in middle and high school will be working minimum wage jobs struggling to get by while you are in college.
Do not try and lie to Mom. She can tell when you are lying. If she did not fall for my tricks, then she will not fall for yours.
Being popular in middle school and high school might be the least important thing that is important to you right now. The kids who were popular when I was in middle school are pregnant, in jail or working at McDonalds. The kids who were nerds when I was in middle school all go to good colleges and have bright futures. Popularity does not matter in the real world.
One last thing. I love you, even if I do not show it sometimes. (Que eye roll.) Continue to be the dork that you are. You have a bright future ahead of you.
