36 Things I Should Thank You For

An Open Letter To My Under-Appreciated Boyfriend

You are a saint. You put up with my crazy, jealous, irrational, insecure, overwhelmed, obsessive compulsive, needy and only sometimes-thankful character all the time. You do so many little things (and sometimes some big things!), and I pick on you a lot.

I never tell you that I really am thankful for you, so here are 36 things I should really thank you for more often:

1. You don't care when I cry, and you still think I'm strong, even when I'm crying over something ridiculous.

2. You listen to me talk about brand-name purses and shoes and pretends it's really interesting.

3. You listen to everything I say and pretends it's really interesting.

4. You even pretend like it was your idea to listen in the first place when I say "listen to me."

5. You showed me all of my favorite music.

6. You accept that I am socially challenged and inclined to awkwardness and don't judge me.

7. You don't think I'm psycho-texting you, you just knows I have a lot to say. And a lot of questions to ask. And want to know where you are.

8. You love all the same things that I do, and my most exciting adventures and favorite memories are with you.

9. You support me in all that I do and all that I believe in, even though I'm a Republican.

10. You taught me what a mature relationship is and that being in love is easy, not a game.

11. You cuddle me every single night, even though I know you prefer to sleep on your stomach and think I'm a human furnace.

12. You make me coffee every morning. Well, almost every morning.

13. You make me laugh every single day.

14. You write me songs, even when I pretend I'm not listening and then get mad when you sing something funny. Also, you should never try out for "American Idol."

15. You re-watched all of "Orange Is The New Black" so I was caught up, even though season 3 was already released.

16. You know that my feelings will be hurt at least three times a day, no matter what, and that's okay.

17. You hangout with my friends, even the ones you think are annoying.

18. You love me for who I am naturally, especially my natural hair.

19. You make me dinner all the time, even if it's just microwave burritos.

20. You lie and tell me my food is good, even when I know I burnt the taco meat.

21. You introduced me to all my favorite TV shows.

22. You still let me spend the night when I cough on you for hours on end, and you inevitably get sick and still love me.

23. You hold me accountable when I'm being unreasonable. Even though this is hard, it makes our relationship work.

24. You are my most loyal friend.

25. You keep all of my secrets — except to Lucas, you always tell Lucas.

26. You help me to see the good in people, even though I don't like anyone.

27. You challenge me intellectually and converse with me about important topics that make me more worldly.

28. You accept me at my very worst (like in the morning when my hair is an Afro and when I'm way too drunk and acting crazy).

29. You invite me to all the fun events you go to and are excited to have me there (most of the time).

30. You go shopping with me, even though I know you would rather die than be caught in Victoria's Secret.

31. You don't let me walk all over you and let me know when I'm being bossy. This keeps me grounded.

32. You taught me how to Frisbee golf and go with me even though I suck.

33. You also don't call me out when I lie about my score when frolfing.

34. You still choose me as a partner for beer pong, despite the fact that I never make a single cup.

35. You never leave me upset and work every fight out with me, even if it's over something stupid.

36. You love me unconditionally (at least I think so).

Thank you for being you and for loving me, even when I don't deserve it. I know that I am difficult to please. I know that I am hard on you. I know that you are under-appreciated so this me telling you, thank you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
