An Open Letter To My "Real Life Tinker Bell"

All a mother-daughter bond needs is a little bit of faith, trust and pixie dust.

An Open Letter To My "Real Life Tinker Bell"

To my "Real Life Tinker Bell,"

Everything that I am about to tell you should have been said a very long time ago. I never told you how much you really meant to me and how much I adored you as a little girl. I want to thank you for the magical memories that you left in my childhood and for the undeniable happiness that you gave me. To this day, you continue to inspire me, strengthen my heart, and encourage my endless dreams. Although no-one quite understands who you exactly are, I do.

No, you are not just the Disney fairy who wears that green dress. You're not just recognized for using your wand to light up the prominent castle in the Walt Disney Studios logo. There is so much more to you that nobody gets like I do. Back then, every little girl fantasized about being just like their favorite Disney princesses. Every little boy dreamt about one day soaring through the sky with their favorite superheroes. I had my share of Disney princesses but none of them impressed me like you ever did.

Flashback to almost fifteen years ago - The days where we first met. I was nearly three years old when I believed there was someone even more magical than Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny. I wrote notes and strategically placed them on the window sill for you and only you to see. Each note had imaginative doodles and scribbles that you always loved, despite the fact that they may not have looked that impressive back then. I would write my name over and over again on the pieces of scrap paper solely hoping that one day my handwriting would be as cool as yours. From time to time, you would write me back. I asked you to leave me Hershey's chocolate bars at the same place I left you my letters, Grandma's window sill. On the days where I wanted to be a sassy toddler, I would request that you didn't bring anything for my baby sister, Natalie - However, that wasn't the case most times but thank you anyway.

Flash forward to first grade - Just when I thought things couldn't get any more surreal they did. This was the year where you essentially connected me closer to my life long best friend, Madeleine. Madeleine and I were once just two six and seven year-olds who sat beside each other on the first day of school. In the first few weeks, our friendship developed in such unexpected ways. I admired her for making me laugh, especially when she cut holes into her pants for no reason - which only lasted until she was given safety scissors, of course. She admired me for my drawings of flowers and was so inspired that she ended up copying me all together. When we finally became inseparable, we had countless sleepovers. During one of our sleepovers, Madeleine and I stayed up late and left you a note. By this time, Madeleine was officially accepted into my Tinker Belle fan club that was specifically just for us. We barely slept that night because we were so sure that we killed you after dropping a flashlight off the bed. Now, remember, you were so teeny-tiny that we could barely see you. Thankfully, though, our candy bars appeared on the dresser that morning with a message in your very writing, so you were still alive and well. Anyway, this isn't anything that you didn't know already. The point is, you played such an important part in our past.

Today, I'm fifteen years older and stronger because of you. Thank you for giving me such sentimental memories that I'll cherish now and forever. You are the best mom in the world. You are my "Tinker Bell" forever and always. I love you.

Yours truly,

Kylee

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
