An open letter to my momma, my best friend, my home skillet, my secret keeper, my ride or die, my driver in the get-a-way car, my coffee pal, and shopping buddy.
I tell you all the time, but why not write a letter to remind you anyways! I LOVE YOU. Thank you for raising me into the woman I am today. You not only gave me life, but you have taught me how to live.
People often ask me who my best friend is and my first response is you. People look at us and tell you "That's your twin" and there is absolutely no denying it either. You have raised me with a very open relationship. I was never scared to come talk to you about anything, because a mother's love has no boundaries. You taught me to be respectful of myself and to others, to love fiercely, to be brave and determined, and to love family.
When you first got diagnosed with Lupus we didn't really know what we were expecting. But come to find out, shopping days could no longer be planned because we didn't know when you would have a flare up. So now, we get spontaneous shopping trips to Rural King, Tj Max, Home Goods, Famous, and anywhere else. (which might I add, is so much better than planned!). Naps are essential during the day and doing household chores are also essential for me. I took over the laundry, helping with dinner, and supporting you in anyway. WIth Lupus, you have taught me to be brave. To be determined, to pray to Jesus and hold faith in Him. Lupus does NOT define who you are, but it for damn sure has only made you stronger.
If we ever needed to get away, I know you'd be driving the get-away car while I'm riding shot gun saying "vroom vroom". If one day, in the middle of October, I wanted to put the Christmas tree up, I know you'd let me. If one day, all I want is Starbucks for dinner, I know you got me. If one day I wanted a matching tattoo, I know you'd take me (because you did!!). Anyday of the week, I know you got me because you love me. Almost as much as I love you.
I hope one day, I am half the mother you are.
Love,
Your Daughter.
