An Open Letter To My Hometown Friends

Thank you for making me, me.

An Open Letter To My Hometown Friends
Gabbi Howard

There has been times where I was lost, I didn't know myself or who I was becoming. There was times where you all just held me while I cried or when I have laughed. Or when I was so angry I needed you all to hold me together.

This one is to my hometown friends,

Thank you for growing up with me and shaping me into the person that I am. Thank you for always holding my hand when I needed you all.

Without my hometown friends, my life wouldn't be complete or full.

You guys are always down to do whatever and that is what I love you about you all. Breakfast and dinner dates, random car rides, gym sessions, sleepovers, should I go on?

Life with my hometown friends has not made it easier but more enjoyable. My friends make my life more fun, they make my life livable, they make my life more interesting and they make my life with them more memorable.

To describe in words on how much they mean to me, well, there is no words. They mean the world to me and God knows it. They are one of my biggest support systems and I can't help but thank them for that. They know what food I like, what drinks I like, they know when I make a certain face and know exactly what I am thinking. You can't find friends like that but when you do, you have to hold on tight because you never know what life will throw at you.

My friends, you all are amazing. You all are simply wonderful and extraordinary. To have to deal with me and my craziness, you guys deserve an award! I know sometimes we may bicker, but that will never phase us and our friendship. Our friendships will last a life time and then some. You are the friends I want in my wedding one day, to call my future kids your "nieces" and "nephews," and to be there at every celebration and occasion.

I couldn't see my life without you all. If I lost one of you, I couldn't handle it. My heart would explode and would never be able to be put back together. So I count every blessing, I count every blessing when we are all together.

College, boyfriends, girlfriends, work, they never get in the way in our friendship. We always sacrifice our time or what little time we have to spend it together. I couldn't be more thankful.

I will always keep your all's secrets to myself. I will always give you advice when you need it and even when you don't. I will always be honest with you and never lie. You all deserve to have a friend who will always be there for you and I try my hardest to be even if we are far away.

Hometown friends, I love you with all of my heart and would do absolutely anything and everything for you all without having any second thoughts. Without you all, what would my life be like? I hope I will never find out. I am so, so blessed to have you all, to call you my brothers and sisters. God has been so good to me to have blessed me with your all's love and friendship.

I love you, my hometown, forever best friends.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
