After our four years are up, it is inevitable that we go our separate ways and choose different paths to walk in life. Whether we go to different colleges or just drift apart as people, there are some thoughts almost every person has about their high school best friends…
To my best friends I still have today:
Thank you. Thank you for standing by me no matter what. For putting up with my post break-up tears and constant rambling on why it ended. For never turning your back on me, especially when I needed you the most. And mostly for realizing that I’ve changed as a person, as most people do after high school, but knowing you still love me anyways. Even though we have made new friends along the way, know that you will forever be my best friend.
To the best friends I see occasionally and can still laugh with:
Even though we may have drifted apart, and have butt heads from time to time, I still respect you and wish you the best. It is heartwarming to be able to look back on memories and laugh, without a bitter feeling inside. It’s always nice to see your new endeavors and I will always wish for you to succeed. You were once there for me, and I will always be there for you. Thank you for understanding that even though we are no longer best friends, we once were, and for that I am forever grateful.
To the best friends I no longer speak to:
We may have opposing opinions on many things and not agree with each other’s life choices here or there, but none of that matters. An immature voice probably spoke hurtful words once or twice, but only to hide the pain of losing a best friend. I too wish you nothing but the best. I will always smile at your success, even if it’s behind your back. You were once a sister, and you cannot rid of a sister, at least permanently. I’ll never forget the bond we once shared, and I thank you for that.
Friendships will always be some of the hardest relationships to maintain, especially in high school. The ones who have stayed through it all will never leave, and the ones who leave will never forget their once best friend. Wherever you go, just know I am always rooting for you.
Sincerely,
Your Best Friend
