Dear friends of mine who worship Kanye West,
You know who you are. You're the ones who spam the group chat with hundreds of texts analyzing The Life of Pablo. The ones who have been "enlightened" and now practice the religion of Kanye West, your "Lord and Savior." Yes, the ones who will kick me off the group chat, give me the silent treatment, and call me a heathen for saying "I don't like Kanye."
Now, maybe I've put you guys in a tough position, seeing as I'm hard-core Team Taylor (and there's no forgiving the human who dared interrupt her on stage). And I'm sorry that despite your efforts I have failed to become "enlightened" about His Greatness, Yeezy. He does have some dope tracks, I'll hand you that. But y'all are the craziest fandom out there.
Let's take a walk down memory lane together, and reflect on some of the best and worst things you've said in reference to Kanye West (mostly in the context of long group chat rants):
"Kanye is really one of the most misunderstood artists of this generation."
"Yo make sure to buy q-tips so you can clean your ears to truly soak in TLOP."
"I WILL BE TYPING IN ALL CAPS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY DUE TO MY PERPETUAL STATE OF HYPE."
"This album is the future of music, quote me on it. It's like...Gospel trap rap."
"No lie but I just remembered that in 7th grade when we had to choose Spanish names I chose Pablo."
"Remember that Kanye's albums age really well."
"Yo if you had to choose between world peace or the new Ye album being released like an hour earlier what would you do?"
"Kanye could kill my entire family and I would just feel jealous that they got to see him as their last image before they left."
The passion is clear, so for that I commend you.
I'd like to end this letter with a few thank you's. First and foremost, thank you for providing me with the perfect example of hard-work and dedication. All those hours spent analyzing and writing paragraphs on Ye's most notable verses really exemplified to me that when you set your mind to something, great things can come out of it. If only you had focused half that energy into AP Lit senior year! (I kid, I kid.) Additionally, thank you for showing me what unconditional love really means. I can truthfully say that I've never witnessed anyone love another person as much as you love Kanye West. Honestly, the only person that loves Kanye more than you do is, well, Kanye.
Sincerely,
Someone who is not, and never intends to be "enlightened."
