Dear Syracuse Friends,

Coming into college, I was excited but nervous. Would I like my roommate? My floor? Would I find my group of friends? You, my friends, have eased those worries.

I came into college hoping for the cliche college friendships you see in movies. I wanted to find my best friends on this hill we’ve called home for the last 8 months and will continue to call home for 3 more fabulous years.

It may be a bit premature since it’s the only year one of three that we’ve completed but I think my college friendship dreams have more than come true.

From friends I met over the summer on Facebook and somehow managed to become real-life friends with, to my friends that always end up in the class we have to convince each other not to skip, to the friends I’ve only recently made, I’m grateful for each and every one of you.

Then there are the friends I now get to call sisters. You guys are the ones I can always lean on no matter what. From eating in the dining hall or studying in Bird to going out on the weekends, I know you guys are always there to keep me company.

Luckily this letter is a see you later, not a goodbye.

Obviously, I’m gonna miss you all like crazy this summer. I can’t imagine not being mere minutes or even seconds away from you at all times.

I’ll miss our crazy days and even crazier nights, those late night movie nights, and the even later nights of “bad decisions only.”

I’ll miss those “does anyone wanna eat” texts and the “I’ll be in the bird if anyone wants to join” messages.

I’ll miss the “I’ll do it if you do” moments, and the “Okay you convinced me” memories I’ll never forget.

And I think most of all, I’ll miss the times you’ve rescued me. Whether it was from a night of studying alone or giving me a place to sleep when necessary, those are the moments I’m truly eternally grateful for.

As excited as I am to sleep in my own bed in my roommate-free bedroom with my dog, I’ll miss our crazy lounge antics and random photoshoots.

Some of you will be farther from me next year than you were this year. Others will be closer than ever. From my future roommate to my future housemates I’m so excited to live in the same house (or the same room) and continue our crazy antics in a house full of sisterhood.

Don’t forget about me this summer, friends, there’s three more years of fun ahead of us.

XOXO You’re freshman/forever friend.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
