What a truly spectacular year it has been, filled with countless smiles, endless laughs, and lots of hugs. I owe it to you all, the “sassy six”, for making my freshman year one I will never forget and always cherish. This is an open letter to you all, my family away from home.
As the semester comes to a bittersweet end, slammed with finals and papers galore, I find myself reminiscing the days where I first met you all. It was a blessing in disguise, I never thought I would meet five amazing young women like yourselves, but I did. You meet a lot of people your first month at college and initially, I didn’t expect us all to become friends‑ let alone remember your names- but we did. It was the type of friendship you read about in the books, the one you always wished you were a part of. Not only do I have an amazing group of friends, but I have a “tribe”, people I can count on no matter what.
I want you all to know how much I cherish our friendships. You’ve all comforted me in my lows and laughed along with me at my highs. Lent an ear when I needed to vent, or lifted me up with words of reassurance. Encouraged me to follow my dreams and to not be afraid of the uncertainties. And became my best friends here at college. You’ve all accepted me for who I am, thank you so much for that.
As our time as freshmen come to an end, I want you all to know I wouldn’t have wanted to spend these past two semesters with anyone else. Soon we will move out of our memory-filled dorms parting ways for the summer, discovering separate endeavors, but I want you to know a few things. I want you to enjoy your summer, whether you be working, going on vacation, catching up with friends, but don’t forget the incredible year we endured together. Don’t forget the unbreakable bonds we created. I will miss you all terribly, not spending every day together, especially our family dinners. But I know we will all be reunited in August and I can’t wait.
Each one of our friendships is so special to me. I was so nervous coming to college that I wouldn’t find equally amazing friends as I left behind at home, but you all proved me to be wrong. Thank you all for being your amazing selves, because of you, my freshman year at college will be one I will never forget.
