An Open Letter To My Best Friend, My Mom.

The older I get, I find more of you in myself every day.

An Open Letter To My Best Friend, My Mom.
Sydney Kurtz

To the woman who gave me life, raised me and made me into the young woman I am today: words can't describe how thankful I am for you.

To say that you are an amazing mother is an understatement. You have always gone above and beyond to show how much you care for me. Since day one I have looked up to you and admired you. You are by far the strongest and most selfless person I know. You always put everyone else first and make sure your families needs are met before your own and don't expect anything in return.

The older I get, I find more of you in myself every day. Although, at first I couldn't accept the fact that I was turning out to be just like you. No teenager likes to hear "you are just like your mom". But as I got older I realized there is no one else I'd rather be. I can only hope to be half of the mother and wife that you are some day.

Becoming an adult and going off to college was a new experience in itself. But learning to live without you each day was the most challenging part. I never realized how much I leaned on you. I took advantage of the fact that I could turn to you for anything I needed and you were right there to help me. But while I'm living on my own at school I can only receive your guidance through a phone call or a text message.

No amount of words can express how much you truly mean to me and how much I love you. Through every disagreement, argument and misunderstanding we have always come out stronger. No matter how many times I messed up or made mistakes you have loved me just the same, and I am forever thankful for your unconditional love and support.

Now more than I ever I need your guidance, advice and support. Growing up isn't easy, and the life decisions I have to make aren't any easier. But having you with me every step of the way for a second opinion, a clear perspective and a shoulder to cry on when times get tough make growing up bearable.

I am so blessed to have grown up with you as my mother and to be able to call you my best friend. I love you more than you know.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
