To all of my May graduates, our last semester of our college career is upon us.
It's at this point we are starting to get a little sentimental. We begin asking ourselves how we got this far. Where did the years go? Wasn't I just a Freshman last year?
While we're trying to figure out how in the world we got to this point, we are also terrified of having to step into the world of adulting. All of the events that have been attended and the friends that we have made. These years have been so good to us. The time that we spent in classes, or enjoying college life is what we will talk about for the rest of our lives.
This being said where there are good times, there are bad ones as well. We get into relationships, fall in love, and then get heartbroken. You may lose a family member, you experience a life-altering event. Even during the heartache, our support systems have always been there for us. While the pain was real and took some time working through them, this literally has made us stronger. It's because of all of our experiences that we know how to better handle anything that life has thrown at us.
Since May is rapidly approaching, this means we have to face filling out job applications and sending out resumes. That word alone is scary enough in itself. Being faced with the fear of not knowing if you will have a job coming straight out of college can keep us up at night. Just hoping that we will get lucky enough to get and interview or to be placed somewhere can be stressful.
Throughout this semester, strive to go out with a bang. Make this last semester the one that you go out and do more, have fun, and study hard. Be social but know when it's time to focus on your classes. Senioritis is a very real thing and while it's easy to slack off and really life the motto of "C's Get Degrees," instead thrive in your courses. Take the advice you would give to the incoming freshman and live it out. Besides, most of us are neck deep in student loan debt so why not get the most out of our money and focus on classes.
While I hope everyone has a fun and successful semester, I want everyone to also have a safe one! I want us all to make it to that stage in May. No matter where you go to school or the exact date that you graduate, we have worked hard and gotten this far that there is no reason why we shouldn't walk on that stage.
***For the Greek Men and Women***
Tell your brothers/sisters how much you love them. Make every minute at every event your chapter has count. We will never get the chance to experience life just as an active member. Going alum will be emotional when we have to say goodbye to our chapters and our second families, but that just means we have the capability to help form and shape the future members of any chapter of out Fraternities/Sororities. Tell your littles, grand littles, great grands that you love them. Make time for them in the future.
