An Open Letter To Get You Through Your Bad Day

We all have those bad days where we feel like nothing is ever going to get better. It could be as small as getting stuck in the rain with no hood on your jacket, or something as big as finding out a loved one is ill. No matter how major or how minor, everyone's problems matter. It's important to try and make the best of all of these unfortunate situations.

1. It's a bad day, not a bad life.

Just because three bad things happened to you today, does not mean you are bound for failure for the rest of your life. Remember, we need these bad days to help us appreciate how good our days could really be. Fortunately, you have tomorrow to start fresh and make up for the stuff you had to go through that day.

2. Somebody will always have it worse.

Sometimes, you keep getting knocked down and you feel like someone is out to get you. It's not always easy to think about it when you're hysterically crying about something, or furious over something else, but keep in mind there will always be someone who has it worse than you. If they could get through their day that's even worse, you can get through yours too.

3. Surround yourself with positive energy.

If you're upset or having a bad day, it's probably not the best idea to sulk on it or hang around negative people. Spend time with people who bring out the best in you and who want to see you do well. Laugh, smile, and talk about good times with company you enjoy.

4. Think of your recent good deeds.

It's hard to think of anything you've done right when you find yourself constantly messing up. But think about how you held that door open for the person behind you, or how you explained that math problem to your classmate, or how you gave a friend a ride. Because of something you did for someone, you made their life just a little bit easier that day. Isn't that something to smile about?

5. Allow yourself to be happy.

Stop beating yourself up over something that isn't going to change, or something that is completely out of your power. Of course, it's okay to get upset, but forgive yourself. You'll make up for that mistake before you know it. Don't linger on something that is in the past, you deserve to be happy.

6. Open your mind.

Open your mind to new ideas. Change can be scary and drag you out of your comfort zone, but allow yourself to do just that. You discover new people, interests, and hobbies by stepping out of where you feel the most comfortable. Sometimes we aren't aware that change is exactly what we need.

7. Do things for yourself.

We all know it's important to do things for other people, but don't forget about yourself. Sometimes we find ourselves becoming so drained by constantly trying to impress others or pleasing others. It's time to do something for yourself. What is it that makes you happy? Treat yourself.

8. Never lose sight of the big picture.

When we constantly have little struggles throughout our week, we feel there is no return. We feel there is nothing that will put us in a better mood. But, think about all of the people who love you and who are constantly rooting for you. Bad grades, flat tires, pointless drama...these things are all so tiring. It's not always easy but think about all the good things we have around us. We have friends, family, co-workers, and even pets who love us unconditionally! When it feels like you can't turn your mood around, think of these people and how important your happiness is to them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
