An Open Letter To My Future Students

I look forward to learning from you as much as you will hopefully learn from me.

An Open Letter To My Future Students

Dear Future Students,

I can't wait to see your smiles each Monday morning and your goodbye waves every Friday afternoon. I can't wait to get to know your strengths and weaknesses. I can't wait to help you read your favorite books and spell your favorite words. Overall, I can't wait to be your teacher.

I will make mistakes, especially at first, but so will all of you. No one is perfect, and in our classroom we will be perfectly imperfect together. We will aim to color inside the lines but embrace it when we failed to do so every now and then. I will try with all of my heart to be patient and encouraging so that you will feel motivated to do your best. I make a promise to you and myself right now that I will set the bar high from day one so that you will realize and reach your fullest potential. I will not require perfection of you, but rather the best that each one of you is capable of.

Everyone is different and no one is stupid, so that word will not be allowed in our classroom. There is no place for that word among all of your uniquely brilliant minds. I don't want any of you to think that you are incapable of learning, because you may learn differently than other people.

I look forward to learning from you as much as you will hopefully learn from me. I hope that you learn letters, number, words and equations. More importantly, I hope that you learn that you are smart, special, and can make an impact on this world even when everything in your life is timing you otherwise. I hope that through the fair, welcoming, and encouraging environment of our classroom you will want to be kind to other people even if they have different beliefs, opinions, and lifestyles than your own. I hope that when summer comes and you leave our classroom to move to another you will not only understand what it's like to be different but will embrace it in yourself and in others.

I can't wait to decorate our classroom and write your names on your desk, but most importantly, I look forward to the day when I have the opportunity to teach and get to know each and every one of you!

See you soon!

Your Future Teacher

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
