I am one of you. I have never voted in a presidential campaign. However, that doesn't mean I am incapable of making the right choice. I know what to look for and what grabs my attention. I have followed politics for quite some time now. If you are the opposite of me and you truly could care less, here is my plea to you; please vote and vote right. Not voting is handing the ticket to the wrong person. I cannot stress this enough.
During this time, I urge each of you to vote as your heart desires. Vote for what you feel is right. Do not let anyone make you feel bad about who you are voting for. Be willing to listen to those who have different ideas, yes. But, if you absolutely do not believe in it, do not change your vote to side with the popular one.
Stand firm in everything you believe in. Listen and listen closely. Listen for the words "economy," "taxes," "abortion," "immigration," "gun control," "terrorism," "healthcare," "welfare," etc. If you choose a candidate who, in your mind, is the best for what you stand for, vote for them. If they don't make it to the end, choose the best man/woman standing. Refusing to vote because your candidate of choice didn't make it is, yet again, handing your ticket to the wrong person.
I know some of you aren't taking this election seriously. My advice to you: Get serious. This is a stepping stone in the future of our nation. If you do not think this election is important, and you decide to stay home and not vote, do not complain when things aren't working out in Washington D.C.
Go against the popular vote, go against your teachings, go against your family if you have to. But whatever you do, vote for the person who you believe is capable of helping this country to their absolute best ability.
My biggest plea is this: No matter who you decide to endorse, be educated. Be educated in economics, be educated in your faith and in everything you stand for. Do not be educated by mass media, or your professor who makes you feel less than anytime you share your opinion. Persuasion is perfectly fine, being taught is perfectly fine, being pressured is not.
You are an American. You have every freedom to vote for the person you want to see in office. So please, take the future of our nation seriously. If you don't want your children growing up in such a dreadful and hard world, go out and change it.
Your vote is your voice as an American citizen. It’s your opportunity to be heard, to hold elected officials accountable for their decisions and to have a say in important issues that affect your community. On Election Day, every vote matters.
