An Open Letter To Change

It's time to embrace it.

Let's start with this: No one likes you, Change. You're different than what we know and you're not fun. You come in at times when you're invited and sometimes you're the last thing we want in our lives. Sometimes you create chaos and sometimes you make things fall into place. But wait...you can be good.

We all have a hard time accepting and adjusting to change. Whether it be a change you wanted or something that just happened. It can be a difficult process being in a new environment, meeting new people or dealing with anything out of the norm. So if we don't like change...why change?

Because...Change is the only thing that will encourage you to grow. It is the only thing that will help you see what you've been missing this entire time. It's the only thing that will let you take advantage of opportunities. Change is the only thing that can help you reach your full potential.

But if change is so amazing...why are we so terrified of it?

Because it takes courage to let go of the things familiar to you. We get set in our ways and habits and when anything messes that up, it scares us. And when faced with a choice to change or stay in our ways we focus on the things we will lose rather than what we will gain. We focus on what could go wrong rather than being excited for what could go right.

So how do we change our outlook on "change?"

Embrace it. Change is the only constant in life. You will deal with it on a daily basis and if you try to ignore it or reject it, you'll get nowhere. Yes, change can be hard. Yes, change will be different. But if you don't change you'll be stuck in the same place. Embrace being uncomfortable, embrace the occasional chaos, embrace the challenge and watch how things fall into place.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
