An Open Letter To All My Graduating Friends

Dear Soon-To-Be Graduate,

In just one week this chapter of your life is coming to an end. This to me is just completely unreal. The day we talked about months—hell, years—ago is finally here. How did this time slip away from our finger tips?

I've thought about this letter long. I've thought about this letter hard. To me, this is one of the most uncomfortable and unsettling feelings which makes it even harder to write because I do not know how to put into words everything I want to say, or how to say it for that matter. Time's ticking and you've paid your dues.

Part of me wishes you weren't graduating because now I'm practically going to have to start over with the whole friend thing. Now I won't have my "go-to." But that would be selfish of me to actually think that way because as my friend, I want nothing but the best for you. I want you to start a career, and I want you to succeed.

Whether we became friends my first night of freshman year or just since last August, you've been more than a friend to me and without you my college experience thus far would not be why it is the way it is now.

The list of memories we have made together is infinite, with a huge range of unforgettable experiences. From low-key chill nights to getting absolutely ridiculous on the weekends, we've done it all and conquered the world together semester by semester.

Also, just an extra side note: Thank you for dealing with all my singing, I know you'll miss it-- stop denying it. In my other life I am a 90s pop star, what can I say? You're obviously part of the entourage.

Even though I'm dreading you "leaving," I can only imagine the thoughts racing through your head, but please do not feel like the best times of your life are done with because that's just it, it's not.

Although I'll be here for a little bit longer than you, it's not the end of the world for either of us. You'll offically be an alum, which means you'll be visiting. And I can assure you, it will be the most epic reunion.

Our friendship isn't ever going to hit rock bottom and I can promise you that because I want you in my life for all the years to come. We may be on different paths but our hearts will remain on the same.

Whether it took you four years or a couple extra semesters, you finally did it.

When you walk up on that stage do so with the biggest and proudest smile because I can assure you that I will have an even bigger and prouder smile.

I'll miss you tons, but just know you'll always have a place to stay when you make your ways back to our favorite place. There is no doubt in my mind that we will take over downtown...a true testimony to see if you can still hang.

Love,
The Soon-To-Be Senior

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
