Hello beauties! I believe an introduction is in order. My name is Alyssa Flesher. I am a vocal performance major and an avid makeup user. I have never written like this before so I will admit I am a little anxious about this whole thing. I plan to write weekly about cosmetics, music, and sprinkle some of my life throughout the process.
So where to start this week? Well, I think before we can even talk cosmetics we need to talk skin care. I thought I’d fill you in on my skin care regimen. Once I have all of my makeup on and I am ready to get it off, I have a whole crazy process. It may seem nutty to you, but I fully believe it is healthy and my skin stays in great condition.
Step 1: Use some sort of eye makeup remover to get all eye makeup off (I use it to take off my lipstick, too). Step 2: Use a makeup remover wipe to get off as much face makeup as possible. Step 3: Wash the face with some sort of exfoliating face wash. I use a face wash with little beads that scrub the skin to really get into my pores. Step 4: (This is not a necessary step). Face mask time! I have been using an organically made mask from Lush Cosmetics that helps my skin feel clean and moisturized. But this step should be specified to your skin-type. If your skin breaks out a lot find a mask that helps with breakouts, if your skin is oily find a mask that soaks up the oil, if you have dry skin find a mask that’s hydrating. Again, this step is not necessary and you don’t even have to do it every night or day. Step 5: Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. You’ll thank me when you are 50. Please use face lotion. No matter what the texture of your skin is. There are all kinds of face moisturizers. I actually use two different kinds. For the morning I use Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm (this seems crazy, I know! But, it moisturizes well and smells amazing!) For the night time moisturizer, I use Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration night cream with clary sage. I enjoy using this at night versus the morning because its texture is quite thick like a clay. I really feel the moisture being locked in which is want you should want while sleeping all night. Before buying a face moisturizer check the label for some kind of disclaimer that it contains no drying alcohol (and if you are like me you’ll make sure it’s not tested on animals!!)
So there you have it. I told you it was a little crazy. I honestly didn’t start this regimen until I was almost nineteen solely because I am finally out of the super awkward teenager skin. This whole process works for me. I cannot guarantee it’ll work for you. But it’s worth a shot, right? Thank you for reading this week! Join me next week when we’ll get into actual cosmetic use! Until next time, beauties!
Xoxo,
Alyssa Flesher
P.S. Need a fun song to jam out to while getting ready this week? My song of the week is “Brand New” by Ben Rector. Go check it out! It’s a totally fun summer jam!
