Dear Younger Me,
It’s a Friday night, and what do you know, instead of having fun doing what 20 year olds do, I’m writing to you, my younger self. This year you’ll be turning 21, and I just wanted to let you know a few things about how life is going. First things first, your life is completely changed, (but in a good way, don’t you worry.) I never thought I would end up with the life that I have right now, but I want you to know, everything is going to be okay and you are so blessed.
You haven’t graduated college yet, but you’re graduating early. You got your license when you were sixteen. You didn’t go to Georgetown, but you still are planning to be a successful lawyer. You fell in love, and met your soulmate. A lot of the people you started your life with are either no longer around, or chose not to be there for you. You’ve been through a lot, but never lost you, who you are.
You didn’t know mom and dad would end up this way, but you will learn to accept change. You need to understand that what happened between mom and dad wasn’t your fault. I know it’ll make you cry yourself to sleep, but this will get better.
Your career path has changed a lot, you’re not going to be a professional soccer player, but you still have your passion for history and law. You have so many friends that look up to you, family who look up to you. Through all of your life obstacles thus far, you have always maintained true to yourself. You matured so early, but you always knew who you are.
You go to college in New York, and are living the college dream you wished for so long ago. You are still stubborn and a perfectionist, but you are a woman who goes after what she wants. I mentioned you met your soul mate? Don’t worry, he’s a handsome Irish hunk. He’s everything you hoped and dreamed for, he’s more than that: He’s your best friend and your lover, your muse and your partner in crime. He’s the reason for your constant smile on your face and the reason your heart skips a beat.
The last thing I need to tell you is I know that there are going to be rough times, but you are going to get through it. You always do, you’re the sassy out going girl you’ve always been. By the way, I love you.
Now, it’s time for me to stop being emotional and go have some 20 year old fun.
Sincerely,
20 year old me
