1. Paris, France -- Cœur de Pirate, “Comme les enfants”
And, no, not because the song’s in French. But, come on -- whenever you visualize yourself walking or biking around Paris in your head, this is probably the song playing in the background. Soft yet playful, this light, bouncy song sounds a lot like a French lullaby.
2. London, UK -- Lily Allen, “LDN”
Yes, LDN is short for London. No, that’s not why I picked it. Aside from its gloomy weather, it’s also a hot pot of vibrant art and culture. But, Lily Allen’s “LDN” encapsulates London’s quirky, multifaceted personality so well that you’ll feel like you’ve suddenly been transported to Oxford Street.
3. Rome, Italy -- Yuna, “Tourist”
If Rome were a person, she would be graceful, elegant, and sophisticated -- not to mention easygoing. Yuna’s “Tourist” captures that persona better than anything else: light and quiet, yet classic and sophisticated.
4. Amsterdam, The Netherlands -- Ingrid Michaelson, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”
Okay, I always associate Amsterdam with John Green’s The Fault In Our Stars, and I always felt like this song would have been perfect for the movie soundtrack. So, that might be why I feel like the connection between the two is too strong to describe with words.
5. Berlin, Germany -- Dillon, “Thirteen Thirtyfive”
Berlin is the hipster capital of the world, with its colorful murals and elaborate connection with the avant-garde. Similarly, Dillon’s “Thirteen Thirtyfive” is soft, but edgy. Musically and lyrically, “Thirteen Thirtyfive” is unlike anything you’ve ever heard.
