Are you a fan of "Doctor Who"? How about "Game of Thrones," "Minecraft," or food? No matter what you’re interested in, I can almost guarantee that there’s an Amino app out there for you. No, it’s not Amino as in amino acids for any of you who are confused about the name. Quite frankly, I’ve never been sure myself exactly why these apps are called that, but I’m assuming it has something to do with how the different atoms of an amino acid are linked together, similar to how communities form within these mini-platforms, creating networks of friendships.
Amino seems to have always been a semi-obscure series of apps on the iTunes and Google Play stores. I first found out about them one day while searching around for apps related to anime that I might be interested in. I tried Anime Amino out for a few hours but was confused at the time as to why I had to download additional Amino apps just to browse other topics, such as art and television. I decided to uninstall the app from my iPod Touch, thinking that it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t until this past March that I decided to give Amino another try after seeing someone on Instagram mention an Amino app called Virtual Space for people interested in roleplaying. I ended up absolutely loving it! There are so many interesting users, posts and even contests, and I feel like it’s a great way for me to express myself as an individual.
Sure, the communities on these apps aren’t large at all compared to other social media platforms, but that’s what makes them so great! Everyone is so tight-knit, and it actually makes you feel important, like you’re a part of something special. Therefore, I encourage you to check out Amino on the app store — maybe there’s one that interests you! Even if it’s just not your thing, perhaps you know someone else who might be interested. Amino apps are a great way to let your creativity flow and for you to get to know people who are interested in the same things that you are, so give them a try!
