As you all have heard by now, there was a tragic incident during the Jason Aldean concert in Las Vegas on October 1. The shooter, Stephen Paddock, killed 58 and injured over 500. So many lives were greatly impacted, and not for the best, in just a matter of minutes. Hundreds of sons, daughters, wives, husbands, mothers, and fathers lost their loved ones. Their lives will be changed forever,
As Americans, we should not be so eager to label Paddock as a "terrorist," or even a "psychopath." We should be more concerned about the lives lost. We should be more concerned about the people in the hospital fighting for their life. We should be more concerned about the families that are suffering. We should be concerned about the community that will never be the same.
Making this issue political is only going to divide our country, division that we do not need in such a disastrous time. We should come together. We should show support. We should offer up something to those suffering: our time, money, blood, or even just a thought or prayer. We should let our loved ones know we love them. There is not enough time to spend it fighting and arguing over how we should label this killer.
Terrorism is defined by Oxford Dictionaries as "The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims." There is no substantial proof claiming this was an act of terrorism. I am not necessarily saying he is or isn't a terrorist, but I do believe spending time labeling this man will NEVER solve the real problem that our country is facing OR the hurt that so many families and fellow Americans are feeling on this horrific day.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by this awful event.
