On Monday, December 18th, President Trump gave a speech outlining his national security policy going forward. The speech served as a transition for his “America First” talking point from a slogan into political canon.
Throughout the speech, he emphasized the role that a strong economy plays in bolstering national defense. This is why many of his policies have had a strong focus on helping businesses and the working class.
He made it immensely clear that he wants to rebuild America’s place of prominence on the world stage. “America is going to win.” This is an example of the language he used. He also called out China and Russia as direct rivals to U.S. values and policies.
Trump has shown the world that he is not afraid to put America’s interests above all others. Take his recent announcement of moving America’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Or his immigration bans. Or his proposed southern border wall which is making progress every day. All of these decisions have been controversial at best and condemned at worst among the world community.
The president has also made it clear that he does not care what bureaucrats in the U.N. or foreign leaders have to say about him or his policies. He is doing what he thinks is right for his country and that is that.
Whether you like him or hate him, I don’t see how anyone could be opposed to the message he was trying to portray throughout his speech. How could any American seriously argue against the security of the homeland? All one has to do is look to the European Union to see what massive, unchecked foreign immigration can do to a society.
Also, by pushing the values of capitalism Trump is also solidifying America’s role in the modern-day prosperity of the world. Any country that is anything runs off of a capitalistic system (Russia and China included).
The world is a better, richer place thanks to America influence throughout the 20th century. Trump is seeking to continue this history of cultural philanthropy throughout the 21st.
