Travel log about Delaware , part 3

Hi Guys !!! I’m back to tell you about my adventures in Delaware !!

I think this time I’ll write about one of the most surprising facts in the United States as a French guy...

American cars !!

I’ll actually make a comparaison between French and American cars , in five areas:

1. SIZE

2. PRICE

3. TRIMMING

4. LICENCE PLATE

5. LEGAL AGE OF A DRIVER

As I said in my previous articles , everything’s huge in America….

When it’s about cars, America strikes again with her “gigantizator”...

(yes, I totally invented this word and … haha no don’t google it, you won’t find it !)

So, are American cars so big ?

YES.

Off roads?

BIG.

Pick-up?

HUGE.

Trucks ?

GIGANTIC

But what about their prices ?

Jeeps and Fords seem to be common cars in the U.S… and not that expensive !!

On the other hand , you’ll have to murder a thousand times your piggy bank to afford one of those in France…

Let's focus on American trimming now … Haha no don’t worry I won't turn into a car addict , but this is one funny point …

I don't even know where to start. Let's enumerate : hoods modification , shiny and oversized bumpers, metallic paint rims , woofers used for hard rock concerts , amazing colors , flags on the trunk of trucks , tinted windows …

But I'd like to focus on some of these points through short events.

One day while walking by, wandering around. Something caught my attention.

It was an old dirty Toyota … However its owner decided to tune it up!

He added big shinny pink rims on it .

I thought to myself , after I had seen the garbage inside his car (Windows weren't closed) , that it was kind of sad to see it so messy ….

Another day , still wandering , I saw as it sped up above the road ,a car painted iridescent!

I honestly thought this was only possible in video games!

Oh another day while I was in the car heading to my homestay , I saw a pick up driving. It was loud , with two American flags attached on its trunk , and thought he had to be pretty much a patriot!

One more funny thing about this trimming mania :

Youth enjoying to boost the bass of their sound system.

It was so loud that it made our car vibrate !!

My hosts hated it , but I actually found it was quite funny!

I bet you now wonder if we do the same in France !!!!

Well, apart from some outlaws who do not care, it is pretty much forbidden to add modifications to your car.... So you’ll hardly see modified cars roaming around in France!!

Let's now focus on something a little different about American cars.

Their licenses plates.

I always liked the fact that they were free of license plates in the front, and also to freely express themselves on the license plate itself (almost hahah).

I actually learned about this second point when I arrived in Newark , and I was surprised they were free to do this!!

Once again, even if France is one big emblem of liberty, we’re not allowed to do this, unless you want your friendly “gendarme” to visit you!

One last point …

The legal driving age in the U.S to drive is literally 16 years old .

When I was 16, I only had a bike to roam around my city, and, to be honest, I do not even own a car yet!!!

Bonus point : Last weekend, I went to the Cecil County Fair, and I saw for the first time in my life, a derby show.

Oh my … Those cars … I actually couldn’t believe that they would be driveable !!!!

The drivers were crazy, but it was one really good time !!!

Here’s some pictures I took !

Oh and one last thing before the end of my journey :

I tried by any means possible to publish it on instagram and couldn’t puzzle out how to do it …

So here’s the link !

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
