We've all seen how feminists have lately been banding together on the internet, specifically Twitter, and speaking out against being mistreated and misunderstood by men in society. You would think that such a movement would be a wonderful thing, considering the outcome of the original fight for women's rights in Amerikka that began in the mid-1800s. But now here we are, questioning who the real feminists are and who are really using feminism as an excuse to condone selfish behavior.

One celebrity who has decided to use feminism as a current platform is TV personality, Amber Rose. She has landed a new late night talk show on VHI called "The Amber Rose Show" where pop culture, trending topics, and most of all sex, are discussed throughout. So you might be asking yourself, "Is Amber Rose one of the real feminists?" Personally, I think not, and here's why:

1. A feminist isn't going to promote whoreish behavior. Ever.

On the first episode of the late night talk show, Amber starts herself off with a wonderful joke. She says, "And actually people don't know this about me, but I'm actually a virgin. Just kidding! I'm a hoe." Am I saying that feminist must be serious and dry at all times? Absolutely not! But we all should know by now that many jokes can have some meaning to them and they can shed light on how that person thinks. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not okay with a modern day "feminist" thinking that she can criticize men for calling her a hoe, but it's definitely okay for her to make jokes about it. It's totally backwards.

2. A feminist keeps the goal in the forefront.

There are times when Amber will promote women being independent, being the true selves, and really just owning who they are. Only to then turn and be vulgar and disrespectful to other celebrities. I won't repeat the things the tweeted to rapper Kanye West, but I suggest you look in to it if you weren't present to her stomach turning comments. I understand that feminists are still humans that make mistakes, but how are you helping liberate women by saying disgusting things about others and building your career around being a sort of sex symbol. Women are more than sex. Why not discuss that instead capitalizing on it?

3. She simply does not fit the description.

Google defines feminism as, "the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men." It seems that Amber Rose's version of feminism only focuses on eradicating slut-shaming. Which in simple terms, is condemning someone for their sexual activity. Why I agree that she does have a point, feminism is just so much more than sex. Her speaking on only sex is truly shaping people's views on what feminism is about. Not wanting to be called a hoe for taking the "Walk of Shame" dos not make you a feminist.

I am a firm believer that Amber Rose has the potential and opportunity to truly be a feminist. But until she can see past the sex aspect, I simply will not be calling her a feminist.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
