I have so many friends and family members who love the great big sceneries of the West Coast, but there are so many hidden gems in the Eastern part of our country!
1. Old Rag Hike at Shenandoah National Park

National Park Service
This day-long hike is one of the most popular things to do in Shenandoah National Park! Located in the beautiful mountains of the Shenandoah Valley, this green view is a can't-miss.
2. Maryland Heights Trail at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

D. Taggart, National Park Service
This is a six-mile hike that can be completed on a beautiful summer afternoon at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park! The most popular view in the park, you can see the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, and the merging of three states: Virginia, West Virginia, and of course, Maryland.
3. Great Falls Park in Fairfax, Virginia

Kevin Ambrose, National Park Service
This is such a beautiful area in Northern Virginia! You can literally just sit and watch the falls or take an easy hike down the path next to the water!
4. Bulls Island, South Carolina

This amazing barrier island floats right off the shores of South Carolina. Take an amazing hike by the Atlantic Ocean and walk through marshes, the home of alligators!
5. Springer Mountain, Georgia

U.S. Forest Service
One of the most challenging hikes in all the world is the 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail, which leads from Georgia to Maine. If you do not have the time for the entirety of the six-month journey, pick a section of the trail to explore! My personal favorites are Springer Mountain, the southernmost part of the trail, and the area around Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, which is the unofficial halfway point for the trial.
